RULES


A. MEMBERSHIP
1).
There are no membership fees, all drivers and car owners are eligible for points, and need no organization affiliation. 1a.) See section E for car owner rules. 1b.) Please note any rules differences for the Western Midget Driver of the Year start with "W" in the appropriate section. 1c.) Please note any rules differences for the Division II Midget Driver of the Year start with "D" in the appropriate section.

B. POINT SCORING
1.)
All points are awarded as listed in the point table. 1a.) Multi-day events preliminary night events will award point Rank 2 provided there are at least 21 cars. 1b.) events with less than twelve cars will receive 1/2 (.50) percent of point rank one, with exception first place will pay 20 pts for victory and fast time will be 5 pts. Exception would be if the event is a point rank 4 then it will award 1/2 (.50) of the scheduled point rank. Half point totals will be awarded to the next higher number (i.e. 7.5 will be awarded 8). 1c.) The final night will pay points ranked off the total number of cars at the start of the multi-day event. 1cc.) Point Rank 3 will be used for Turkey Night Grand Prix for WMDOTY points total.

2.) If an event is posted, and regarded as official by the sanctioning organization, then we accept it as an official event.

3.) Results are posted only after receiving them from an official representative of the sanctioning organization.

4.) Preliminary Night Features at the Chili Bowl will carry a minimum of 10 points per feature starting driver (i.e. 12th to balance of field Tuesday-Friday nights).

5.) Only the starting driver of the feature, will receive points. No relief driver points will be scored.

6.) Twin features run on the same day at the same track will receive point rank two for each feature provided there are at least 21 cars present at the start of the evenings events. 6a.) This will not apply to makeup features from a previous date run before a regularly scheduled event. The makeup feature will carry a point total of the car count of the start of the night not the completed night.

7.) Events with less than fifteen cars will not car owner points. 

8.)
For indoor events (other than Chili Bowl) or events on tracks under a 1/4-mile (less than 0.249) and smaller Rank 1 will be used for car count up to 35, and Rank 2 for car count over 36. 8a.) The official source for track size will be the National Speedway Directory.

9.) Ties will be broken only in the top ten, after the season's final event, for Driver, Car Owner and Rookie points. 9a.) First tie breaker is the driver/car owner with the least races run. 9b.)Second tie breaker will be the driver with the most feature wins,  if still tied, then second place feature finishes, third, etc., until tie is broken.

10.) If tie in Manufacturers Championship occurs the tie breaker will be the most points scored in the big six events. 10D.) No manufacturer points will be kept for Division II events. 10W.) No manufacturer points will be kept for Western events.

11.) Only events which feature full sized unlimited midget auto racing cars will be scored for NMDOTY or WMDOTY points. Events for  Spec Series (Kenyon Cars, Ford Focus, BCRA Lites, NEMA Lites, UMARA Sportsman etc) will not count. Special invitational events will not count. 11D.) For 2016 season the following series will be counted towards Division II points: Badger Midget Series, STARS, USAC/IMRA, USAC DMA, POWRi Division 2, SSMS, and special open events for 2.4 liter type cars. Additional qualifying events maybe added or announced after the season has started.

12.) Race season year will be January 1- November 30. Events scheduled prior to November 30, and run afterwards due to weather conditions will count in that year. Any  events run between December 1-31, and sanctioned by a race organization will carry points for the new season( i.e. January 1).  12a.) Rule 12 was changed for the 2005 season to allow the Mopar Sprint/Midget  USAC Spl Event at the Orlando Speedworld on Dec. 1-2, 2005 to count towards the 2005 championship.

13.) Mid-season point leader will be the driver leading points at the conclusion of all June 30 events.

14.) Drivers best 30 points nights will count towards his NMDOTY overall total. 14W.) Drivers best 18 points nights will count towards his WMDOTY overall total. 14D.) Drivers best 20 points nights will count towards his Division II overall total.

15.) If an event is ended before an official feature is completed, no feature points will be awarded. If a race organization considers the night an "official race night" and qualifying is completed, the driver and owner will receive fast time points.

16.) A driver/car owner's point total for the same event may differ because of the NMDOTY and WMDOTY point tables. 

17.) Events run in the states of CA, OR, WA, AZ, NV, UT, ID, MT, CO, and British Columbia Canada will count towards a driver's WMDOTY point total.

C. ROOKIE STATUS
1.)
Driver is considered to have rookie status by the following those who have run  five or less events in their career
. 1D.) No rookie points will be counted for Division II events. 1W.) No rookie points will be counted for Western events.

D. POINT FUND
1.)
Drivers and car owners point fund will be distributed at the awards ceremony in Tulsa, Okla., on January following the completed year. Point fund totals will be announced before the event. 1W.) Drivers and car owners point fund will be distributed at the Chili Bowl or the USAC Western, and or/BCRA  awards ceremony in California following the completed year. Point fund totals will be announced before the event. 1D.) Drivers point fund will be distributed at announced location following the completed year. Point fund totals will be announced before the event. 

E. CAR OWNERS
1.) There are no membership fees, all car owners are eligible for points, and need no organization affiliation. 1a.) Only the top ten feature finishers will receive car owner points, along with the fast qualifier.  1b.) Events with less than fifteen cars will not car owner points. 2.) Drivers best 30 points nights will count towards his NMDOTY overall total. 2W.) Drivers best 18 points nights will count towards his WMDOTY overall total. 3D.) No car owner points will be counted for Division II events.

2.) For car owners to participant in year-end point fund distribution and special race awards, they must display National Midget Driver of the Year decals on their car.  

3.) Car Owner may not score points for two events run on the same day unless the same car is used for both events. (same car number at two different tracks event running at same time i.e. Saturday Night event in Illinois and California run at same time).

F. NON-COMPETITOR PRIZE DISTRIBUTION
Non-competitor (i.e. not a driver/car owner) prizes may be awarded during the season at various events (i.e. race track, off-track, website/facebook/twitter contests), they must be claimed at the event or within twenty-one days of contest end. Gapinski Racing Enterprises is responsible for the shipping costs of these items to prize winner if they can not be picked up at the event that are claimed within twenty-one days of contest end.
