(11/26/99)----Before embarking on his NASCAR Busch Grand National
career, Jason Leffler capped off a brilliant season of Midget Racing
by capturing the inaugural National Midget Driver of the Year Award.
The award was sponsored by National Speed Sport News and Arizona
Sport Shirts.
Leffler's win
in the Turkey Night Grand Prix, at Irwindale Speedway, gave him three
major midget wins, and ten overall for the season. Leffler also
captured the Copper World Classic and the Summer Sizzle. The ten
feature wins made him the winningest driver overall in the country,
one more than Dan Boorse and Ryan Newman.
